Guidelines for choosing a training provider

Should you be interested in pursuing a counselling course there are a number of questions you may wish to ask your prospective training provider. Since you will be spending a fair sum of money on being trained the least you should do is check that the training organisation fulfils certain basic guidelines.

Firstly, their awarding body should follow the guidelines of BACP. The principal awarding bodies are ABC and CPCAB.

Secondly, that the organisation has suitable insurance and awarding body recognition. It should follow BACP's ethical code for good practice and adhere to the training requirements of BACP.

Thirdly, that the teachers are members of BACP, have a teaching/training qualification, and, as a measure of good practice, are qualified to a level above that which they are teaching.

Fourthly, teachers should also be practising therapists. The Diploma course is a demanding course both theoretically and emotionally and it is important that teachers have the experience to be able to help and support students through their personal development which is an important part of the course. It is advisable therefore that teachers should have at least three years post-qualification experience.

So do not be afraid to ask to see teachers' certificates and evidence of their experience. Any reputable organisation and teacher will be more than happy to show you everything.

Jo Edwards Training not only fulfils these guidelines but in some cases exceeds them.

Future Courses (including a new Level 5 CBT course)

The Centre's new additional premises in Campbell Street and Henry Street, Liverpool 1.

We have moved the Training side from Rodney Street to 2 Campbell Street, L1 5AX. (However we are still also based at Rodney Street for therapy and small groups/workshops). Campbell Street is at the bottom of Duke Street (2nd to last turn off on the left) just by Liverpool 1. If you are approaching from Central Station, turn left out of the station and walk right along Hanover Street. Go past Tesco and Home Bargains, you could turn left after Home Bargains, cross over the road and turn first right which is Campbell Street, only very small street, walk to end where Duke Street crosses it, cross over into the other part of Campbell Street and on the left is the building in which we are situated. (Just by Campbell Square and the Old Bridewell).
There is a map on the Liverpool Empowerment Centre's website..

As well as our ABC Accredited Counseling courses, Level 2, Level 3 and Diploma Level 4 we are pleased to announce that we have launched a new CPCAB Accredited Level 5 Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapeutic Skills and Theory which will commence shortly - see Liverpool Empowerment Centre site for details..
